The Nelson Environment Centre has been at the forefront working for sustainability in Nelson for 30 years. We are an umbrella organisation for a large number of environmental projects.

Nelson Environment Centre

Nelson Environment Centre new building was officially opened at ribbon-cutting ceremony by Nelson MP and Minister for the Environment Nick Smith on Friday 25th February 2011. NEC is now located at 1 Braemar Place, upper Franklyn Street, Nelson South.

 

Energy in Schools

Energy in Schools supports schools in Nelson to assess, measure and reduce their energy use so making savings at a time when the cost of energy is rising. It also works alongside schools to provide resources on energy for different subject areas as well as interactive displays and workshops at Nelson Environment Centre.

 

Solar Saver

What if we could lower our power bills, improve our security of energy supply, AND help keep New Zealand’s environment clean for the future? Solar Saver is a new not-for-profit initiative, working with local councils to make solar hot water systems available to homes across New Zealand.

Waste Education Services

For many years the NEC has worked in partnership with both Nelson City and Tasman District Councils to provide free Waste Education Services (WES) (link) to businesses and schools in our community.

NEC opened  the Nelson Recycling Centre 17 years ago, and currently runs the Re-Use shops at the Transfer Station in Vivian St, Tahunanui. You can see what kind of treasures they have for sale, and place a bid for what is always a great deal!
